Do I need a license to ride a scooter?
Yes. The RTA requires you attend a pre-learner course. The course is two half days of training and requires no previous experience. You will be provided with a helmet, gloves and scooter (or motorcycle). The course is subsidized by the State government and only costs $72, which can be paid with a credit card when you make your reservation. Phone RTA on 132213. You will then need to complete a knowledge test. Sample questions can be viewed on www.rta.nsw.gov.au. Your learner license is issued immediately after you complete the knowledge test and you are ready to ride on the road.
How do I know if I can ride a scooter?
Scooters are almost as easy to ride as a pushbike. The brakes are in the same place. They are fully automatic operated by twisting the right hand grip. The easiest way to find out is to book into the RTA pre learner course where you are taught by a qualified instructor. They assume that you have no scooter experience. It’s inexpensive, informative and all sorts of fun.
How do I choose a scooter?
Scooters come in three engine categories: Small (50cc- 100cc) top speed 50-70kph, Medium (125-200cc) that can typically do 90-110kph and Large (250cc and over) . Your choice will depend on whether you are going to use it as a commuter, if you are riding in hilly terrain or if you are likely to double another person on occasions. If any of the above apply to you should rule out a small engine size. Once you have decided on the engine size there is no reason why you should not decide on what looks good or what is most comfortable to you. Our staff are very experienced riders, so ask us what size engine may be most suited for your needs.
