In NSW you will need a scooter/motorcycle license. This involves a 2 day practical course followed by a knowledge test to obtain a learners permit. www.rta.nsw.gov.au
SCOOTERS
Scooter Central recommends that you buy at least a mid range, Taiwanese scooter or a high end Italian scooter in order that you buy a reputable, long standing brand and most importantly something that is high quality, safe, reliable and long lasting.

Engine size (cruising speeds)- 50cc up to 50kmh, 100cc up to 65kmh, 125cc up to 80kmh, 150cc up to 95kmh, 200cc up to 100kmh, 250cc up to 110kmh, 250cc+ 125kmh+
Storage – glovebox (fits phone, wallet etc), underseat (usually fits an open face helmet at least) and optional topbox (from 26-45 litres). Storage options vary depending on the scooter.
Styling – sports, modern or retro (Vespa styling)
Wheel Size: Big wheels are excellent for superior stability (particularly at speed), handling and ability to handle inconsistencies in the road. vs small wheels give greater storage under the seat and more agile steering
RIDER APPAREL
An Australian standards approved helmet ($89+) is compulsory but we recommend a jacket ($199+) and gloves ($40+) as well as a basic safety package.
For more serious protection there is also available wet weather suits ($60), protective pants ($169+) and leather boots ($189+). In winter time there is also face masks and balaclavas ($25+).
SCOOTER ACCESSORIES
Lap apron – For extra warmth and to keep dry lap aprons are available from $149.
Cover – Are you going to keep your scooter outside? If so we recommend a cover to protect against rust and keep your scooter clean (from $45+).
Lock – Cable or disc locks (from $45+). Recommended as a preventative measure against theft. Easy to use and store, and also cost effective.
Topbox – Great option for additional storage. Sizes from 26-45L. Perfect to fit a 2nd helmet, laptop, shopping etc.
Data dot – For added security and a discount off your insurance policy.
INSURANCE –
We are a Swann insurance agent, which are part of IAG and specialise in scooter insurance. With comprehensive, third party fire and theft and third party options they are highly competitive and have all bases covered. For example 30y.o, rating 1, $5000 scooter $220/year for comprehensive and $150 for third party (approximations).
